President-elect Peter Kyveryga earned his Ph.D. in Soil Science and Soil Fertility from Iowa State University, and comes with a background of 16 years work experience in the nonprofit sector. Kyveryga now works for a major manufacturer of agricultural technologies, serving thousands of farmers and agronomists who are primary end-users of agronomic research.
As part of his vision statement, Kyveryga’s plan for ASA is to enhance public perception and trust in science and agriculture. This would come from strengthened relationships with volunteer and grassroots organizations, as well as the agricultural industry, public education, non-government institutes, Certified Crop Advisers, and environmental farm groups. He hopes to inspire a new generation of future farmers and scientists, and promote and practice diversity, equity, and inclusion in all decisions, planning, and activities within ASA.
Jim Cudahy, Chief Executive Officer of the Alliance of Crop, Soil, and Environmental Science Societies, welcomes the newly elected leadership, saying, “I am looking forward to working with this talented and dedicated group of leaders and extend a warm welcome in their new roles. I know they will enhance and strengthen the Society they serve.”
ASA is also part of the Alliance of Crop, Soil, and Environmental Science Societies (ACSESS): a nonprofit organization providing management and administrative, support services to founding members, the American Society of Agronomy (ASA), Crop Science Society of America (CSSA), and Soil Science Society of America (SSSA).
